The Lagos State Police Command has marked the 2026 Customer Service Week by taking its service-oriented policing campaign to members of the public, offering free medical tests and other health services to residents.
The programme, organised in line with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu’s directive on improved police-public relations and service delivery, was held at the Computer Village, Ikeja Underbridge, Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, who led members of his management team to the location, said the initiative was designed to bring the police closer to the people and provide an avenue for members of the public to interact directly with senior police officers.
Speaking on the theme of the celebration, “Going the Extra Mile,” Tijani said the theme was not merely a slogan but a commitment by the police to better policing, stronger partnerships and a safer Lagos.
He expressed delight at the large turnout of members of the public who came out to benefit from the free medical services, describing the gesture as part of the command’s efforts to demonstrate that policing goes beyond arrest and enforcement.
The CP appreciated Lagos residents for their continued support, constructive criticisms and willingness to hold the police accountable.
According to him, the observations, criticisms and suggestions from members of the public had continued to challenge the command to improve its services and remain responsive to the needs of residents.
He said: “The command remains committed to listening, learning and serving with humility and integrity. We are happy with the feedback we are getting from members of the public.
“That is to say, all of us are policemen and police officers. I can assure you that, with the support we have gotten so far from members of the public, we are ready to do more in terms of policing Lagos State.
“Our primary duty is the protection of lives and property. And I can say this with heavy authority that we are ready to protect the lives and property of every single individual who resides in the state.
“We have been getting feelers from you. Wherever our lapses are, you have been telling us. A lot of people write on social media; many others report the conduct of police officers physically to us, while some do so through social media, written complaints and petitions.
“I can tell you for free that we have never taken any of these reports for granted. We have acted on every single report from members of the public. And that has, in no small way, enhanced our work and spurred us to do more in terms of policing Lagos State.”
Tijani said the achievements recorded by the command in the area of security and policing could not have been possible without the support and cooperation of residents and other stakeholders.
He therefore thanked members of the public for their contributions towards improving security and service delivery across the state.
The CP urged residents to continue to point out areas where the police were falling short, assuring them that such feedback would be taken seriously.
He said: “If you think there is any other area where you are looking for improvement from the police, we are in the public now. You should be able to tell us to our faces: ‘This is the area where you are lacking. These are the areas where we want improvement from you.’
“We are part of the public, and you are part of us as well. So, don’t hesitate to tell us anything you feel about us. That is the service delivery we are talking about.
“We are ready to serve you better than before. So that you know that we are close to you, you should also be close to us. And that is the more reason why we have brought this programme to this location, so that every Dick and Harry passing along the street can be part of the programme.
“If there is anything, any area you are finding us wanting, that you want us to improve on, don’t hesitate to let us know here. When we go back, we are going to work on them and ensure you see the improvement from the police.”
