The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly killing his 56-year-old father with a machete at Abatete, Idemili North Local Government.
The suspect was alleged to have engaged his father in a heated argument before attacking him with a machete, inflicting serious injuries on him.
He reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The incident attracted the attention of neighbours, who reportedly saw the suspect fleeing and moved to apprehend him.
It was during the ensuing development that the neighbours discovered that Ogbogu’s father had been fatally injured.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Ama, commended the prompt response of the community members, family members, police operatives and vigilante personnel, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Ama also commended the community for providing timely information and supporting the police in apprehending the suspect.
He stressed that effective community participation, timely information sharing and strong partnership between the police and local communities remained crucial to successful policing and the protection of lives and property.
The CP commiserated with the family of the deceased and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
