An angry mob in Aba, Abia State, early this week reportedly killed a man after he allegedly threw two of his children from a two-storey building, killing one and leaving the other critically injured.
The deceased, said to be in his early 40s, was reportedly from a community in Obingwa Local Government,Abia State but resided at Umuobe Phase II, Ovom, in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
Sources said the incident followed a heated argument between the man and his wife, a nursing mother. The quarrel reportedly escalated into a violent altercation, during which the man allegedly threatened to do something his wife “would never forget in her life.”
As the argument intensified, their children reportedly ran to the balcony of their apartment on the top floor of the two-storey building.
Witnesses said the man allegedly rushed to the balcony, seized one of the children and threw the child from the building. He reportedly grabbed a second child and also flung the child over the balcony.
The man allegedly attempted to snatch a third child, who was being carried by his wife, with the intention of throwing the child as well, but the woman resisted and prevented him from doing so.
Unable to seize the third child, the man reportedly jumped from the building himself, sustaining injuries in the process.
According to eyewitnesses, as he attempted to flee after landing, an angry mob that had gathered at the scene descended on him and beat him to death.
The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the man and the deceased child were deposited in a mortuary
