Concerned officers at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Abuja, have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, over an alleged leadership rift within the department.
The petition centers around ACP Ngozi Braide, who was documented at FCID on 10 March 2026 and was due to assume full operational command on 16 March 2026.
The officers alleged that controversial postings and redeployments were prioritized before she formally took over, raising suspicions about who authorized the moves. They are defending ACP Braide, saying she has been unfairly targeted amid the internal dispute.
Related reports indicate the rift is tied to broader concerns about redeployments within FCID. Civil society groups like RULAAC had also petitioned the IGP over the posting of officers allegedly facing misconduct probes to sensitive units in FCID, warning that assigning such officers to cybercrime and tactical teams risks “institutional capture” and erodes public trust.
In the FCID case, sources allege that during earlier probes, the officer now promoted to DIG made appeals for leniency on behalf of two Superintendents. That alleged prior advocacy has raised concerns over conflict of interest.
The petitioners argue that placing officers under investigation in charge of sensitive sections sends a corrosive message and may paralyze internal oversight. They are asking the IGP to intervene to restore order, ensure fairness, and protect the integrity of investigations at FCID.
As of the time of reporting, the Force Public Relations Office acknowledged receipt of enquiries but had not supplied a substantive reply.
However, a senior police officer at FCID, Alagbon told our Reporter that , ” ACP Ngozi Braide has been with DIG Margaret Ochalla in Abuja since she was promoted and that DIG Ochalla had officially informed the AIG incharge of FCID, Alagbon that ACP Braide has been with her. I don’t know why they are dragging Braide into police dirty politics. ACP Braide is presently in Abuja and did not travel outside the country . They should leave the innocent woman alone .”
