The Delta State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected drug dealers and rescued two minors during an intelligence-led raid on illicit drug dens in Ozoro and Abraka.
The operation, carried out on July 21, targeted identified drug hotspots and criminal hideouts in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, Ekrejeta and the NUT Area of Abraka following credible intelligence.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe said in a statement that the suspects comprise 19 males and three females arrested for alleged offences bordering on the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
The command also rescued two minors who were found in a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father.
According to Edafe, the children have been placed in protective custody and will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care while investigations continue.
The state Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi described the discovery of minors in a drug-related environment as disturbing, stressing that the command would intensify efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the state.
He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to support the police with credible information, assuring residents that intelligence-led operations against illicit drug activities and other crimes would be sustained.
